Guess I have some 'splainin' to do...

A quick little update blog for everyone! I know you've been checking my little spot here, anxiously awaiting my updates with bated breath!

I finally went out with Doc. It wasn't all I'd hoped it would be. He was in my city for a medical convention. I don't know if I mentioned that he lives about an hour and half drive from me. We met up for dinner and drinks the night after Obama became our President-elect (yep...happy dance!). Conversation was still casual and flirty, as usual. Afterward, I followed him back to his fancy hotel that they put him up in just to hang out. As we walked into the lobby, he looked behind us and saw two black women. He then said, "Let me slow down so those black girls don't think I'm with you."* I was like, "WTF???" All I could say back is "Wow." He tried to play it off as a joke, but that shit ain't funny to me. I would never even think to say something like that to someone! So needless to say, the night was ruined, and I left him alone at his hotel after a lull and an attempt at cool conversation. Of course, he hasn't called again.

The young coworker's Halloween party went off without a hitch. A drunken good time was had by all. We stayed up way too late, drank way too much, danced, played Cornhole**, and became rockstars with the help of Nintendo 360 and Rockband! The young coworker and I have recognized our attraction to one another, but we haven't acted on it. We have cooled the texting, but he does still ask me to hang out often. We've only done so once since the party. Oh yeah, and he still has his girlfriend.

KS still sends me the occasional "Good morning" text message a couple times a week. I still respond and never hear back til the next "Good morning." Sigh.

And last but definitely not least, I will finally meet LD Man tomorrow!!! I'm excited, nervous, scared, and in shock right now! I'll let you know how it goes! :)

*Doc is black, I'm not.
**Youtube it if you don't understand, because I really can't explain!

Hmmm...some black women give black men a lot of grief when they date women of other races. I'd like to think Doc was joking and didn't think you'd be offended. Doesn't make it acceptable though.

Sounds like the flirting with the YC is harmless but fun.

Looking forward to hearing about your time with the LD man. Have a great time!

Have a wonderful time on your trip. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. Sorry I missed your call. I was outside building a chicken tractor! I'll explain that one later. Let me know if you think we might be able to get together next weekend.

Love You and Have Fun!

I know what you mean about some black women giving black men grief for dating outside their race. And I understand that, but I also date whomever I like, regardless of race. I guess that is why I wouldn't ever think to say something like that. I acually tried to think of a way to report that story without race coming up in my blog but could think of no way to do it.

Young Coworker would be a great love interest, if not for his gf! LOL BTW...he is yet another race! Hehe

I'm with you girl. I'm an equal opportunity dater and would never think to say something like that, even in jest, to someone. I can definitely see where it would have a negative effect on things.

Damn girlfriends anyway huh? Haha...just kidding.

Have fun. I'm sure you're very excited to see the LD man! Keep us posted!

Girl, I'm glad you explained the scenario exactly as it happened. This subject came up on a radio show a little while ago and someone had an eye-opening take on it...

They commented that many black men and white women don't limit themselves when dating/finding a mate. Many black women do (for various reasons), so they often like women of other races are 'intruding'.

As I get older, I realize that I've limited myself, so those comments and your way of looking at it have made me look at the situation totally different. If you like someone, why not?

Oh, and girlfriends have a way of 'disappearing'...just say the word...hehe.

i would a bit offended by what doc said. you would like to think that in this day and age, dating outside your race doesn't matter that much... but i guess sometimes it still does...

young coworker is a tricky situation... darn bout the gf haha!

This is 2008. What an odd comment by Doc.

i hate those kinds of texts! i get them all the time from the one that i just don't understand - the one who creeps back into my life when i finally forget about him, and then get a "good morning counselor" text [we're both attorneys, super lame i know, but still]. so freaking annoying. so then when i either decide to email or call him, i hear back a few days/weeks later with a "morning counselor". ugh.

Like LisaQ I'm an equal opportunity dater. I can understand you being annoyed by his statement. I would've been too. But I might have also called him on it. If he came out and said he didn't want to cause a scene/upset anyone - well, I think it's stupid for people to be offended, but I understand wanting to fly under the radar in certain situations (if the women were colleagues, for example, and he thought they were going to be on his case for a while).

Anyway, it sounds like you are better off putting your energy elsewhere.

Angel- Thanks for the well wishes, but you already know how the trip went!

LisaQ- Hey girl! Sorry I haven't visited your blog as much as usual lately! But no, I wouldn't say something like that to someone either.

Curvy- That's interesting about how some people limit their choices when dating. I think I limit my choices to a certain extent, but it usually has more to do with education level, open-mindedness, and other qualities...not so much with race.

jo- Unfortunately, the southern part of the U.S. is still a little less tolerant of interracial dating. And damn! I would love to rid the young coworker of his girlfriend!

Chica- Yeah, you'd think people would be a little more open, huh?

Complicated v- I know!! This is the exact same situation! It drives me insane. I just don't understand the purpose. Maybe I'll send him a good morning text now. Reverse the game! LOL

SINgleGIRL- I did call him out on it. He claims it was just a joke. At times, depending on the person, I would have laughed right along. But part of Doc's issue the first time around was the interracial thing. He had never dated outside his race before, and he was always worried about what his friends and family would think. I just thought maybe he had grown up a little in the last year. Guess not...
